Published on: 23 Aug, 2017

Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE: WMT) together with Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) announced a partnership. Together the two companies plan to compete against Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN). The partnership will focus on providing customers with voice shopping ability.

Marc Lore President and CEO, Walmart U.S. eCommerce said in a statement, “Our new voice shopping capability, coupled with our core value proposition, including free two-day shipping and the Pickup Discount, will give our customers a compelling new way to get what they need at low prices.”

Next year, Wal-Mart will leverage their 4,700 U.S. stores and fulfillment network to create customer experiences that don’t currently exist within voice shopping anywhere else, including choosing to pick up an order in store  or using voice shopping to purchase fresh groceries across the country.

Sridhar Ramaswamy, Google Senior Vice President Ads & Commerce explained, “Starting today, we’re offering free delivery on Google Express as long as your order is above each store’s minimum. There’s no membership required so no matter how you shop—through voice with your Google Assistant or on the website or mobile app—you’ll get free delivery within one to three days. We’re just getting started, and there will be lots more exciting experiences to come, so stay tuned.”
