Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) has hired Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) vice president of monetization engineering as the new vice president of engineering. Bowers will be taking on the Autopilot initiative for the company and other projects. The head of Tesla's Autopilot division left for Intel in April.
Snap confirmed Bowers will be leaving the company on Friday. Bowers joined the company back in 2015 from Facebook and lead the company's engineering efforts around monetization and oversaw approximately 100 employees.
Snap's stock price has dropped with user growth slowing down in recent months after Snapchat's latest redesign failed to entice users.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk is flattening the management structure to improve efficiency and communication in daily operations with the production of the new Model 3 sedan. Earlier in March, a Tesla driver died in a crash using the Autopilot software, while Musk still believes over the long term that the autonomous driving vehicles will reduce the number of car accidents.
