Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced on Monday that it has entered into a definitive merger agreement with Eero. Amazon will acquire Eero’s home mesh Wi-Fi systems, which will allow it to setup smart home connected devices in minutes.
Eero is a tech startup founded in 2014 in San Francisco. The founders, Nick Weaver, Amos Schallich and Nate Hardison aim to develop a technology to make Wi-Fi simple to use and install as well as provide an effective signal.
“From the beginning, eero’s mission has been to make the technology in homes just work,” said Nick Weaver, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of eero. “We started with WiFi because it’s the foundation of the modern home. Every customer deserves reliable and secure WiFi in every room. By joining the Amazon family, we’re excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring eero systems to more customers around the globe.”
Eero’s technology uses multiple access points that work together as a system to a blanket a home in high-performing, reliable, and simple home Wi-Fi. Customers can customize an Eero system to meet the size and shape of their homes. The tech will also help eliminate dead zones, which will help provide a stronger signal in specific areas that are hard to reach.
Customers can use Eero’s app to set it up, which can take under 10 minutes. Customers can then share their network, program parental controls, and run speed tests on demand. Additionally, Eero also communicates with the cloud to receive instructions and updates, making it self-sustainable.
Eero devices cost USD 199 and covers up to 1,500 square feet. However, customers can purchase the eero Beacon for USD 149 which will add an additional 1,000 square feet or purchase both for USD 299.
